LEARNERhips

APD has been awarded a “National Certificate in Business Administration Services Learnership (NQF Level 3)" for ten learners in 2008 and it will be for a period of 12 months.  This opportunity was unlocked as a result of our affiliation to the NCPPDSA and enabled APD to train some of our staff which includes persons with disabilities.  However, the overwhelming majority of the learners are made available to unemployed persons with disabilities in Limpopo.

The need for a learnership that addresses the genetic component of secretarial and administrative work is even more apparent when one considers the fact that learners may find themselves in a range of workplaces and in need to be sure that the qualification will be recognized.  Although learners will learn in a particular economic sector or a range of economic sectors the learning will be fully profitable to all other economic sectors.  Learners will be able to choose from specializing in reception, secretarial/administration or personnel/executive assistant depending on the job that is being carried out.  Successful learners will be able to be placed in positions such as receptionist, administration, assistant, secretary, clerk, personal assistant, etc and any workplace in the economic sector.

the Trainer

The NCPPDSA has developed a 5 phase Empowerment Training and Development program of which the first two unit standards received accreditation from the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA) during the later part of 2007.  Bearing in mind that persons with disability must be properly integrated into the broader society, this programme empower these students with disability upon completion to go into the community to mentor other persons with disability on presenting themselves, on disability related issues in general and own life.  Added to this skill, students will be empowered to conduct basic sensitization training in communities and for employers.

is distance based, by satellite from the University of Stellenbosch and they identified existing venues in each province that are used for satellite broadcasts for each training session.  These training sessions are also available on DVD and therefore if someone is interested they can start the training any time.  The students are also required to complete assignments as well as practical presentations.

Although this programme is aimed at persons with disability it is open to all persons that meet the following criteria:

-          Candidates should have passed Grade 9 (Standard 7).

-          Should preferably be a person with a disability however, able bodied persons are also allowed to do this training.

-          Persons that are already involved with the promotion and awareness project will be an advantage.

-          Must be a member of or involved with APD.

Currently APD has two members of staff, of which one is a person with a disability, and one manager from one of APD’s community based projects participating in the programme.  If anyone would like to find out more about or like to go through the training, contact us.
